The 6GMADLab will be an innovative research and development center dedicated to exploring the potential of 5G/6G mobile communication technologies. Located at the School of Telecommunications Engineering (ETSIT) of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM), this laboratory will be at the forefront of the evolution of wireless networks, offering a unique environment where researchers, companies, and public organizations can experiment, validate, and optimize technological solutions that will define the future of connectivity. Equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, the 6GMADLab aims not only to address the current challenges of 5G but also to anticipate the needs of 6G, integrating artificial intelligence, massive IoT device networks, and communications in millimeter-wave and Terahertz frequencies.

Specifically, the services offered by the 6GMADLab can be grouped into the following work areas, which will include integration, testing, validation, consulting, and technical support services:

  • Private 5G/6G Networks. Use Case Deployment: Consulting and assistance in deploying private 5G networks in various vertical sectors. Implementation of use cases.

  • Deployment of Mobile Communication Systems in Millimeter-Wave and Terahertz Bands: Research in developing new emerging techniques for deploying 5G technologies, specifically in RIS surfaces, massive MIMO, beamforming, etc. Research on use cases for emerging communication systems in millimeter-wave and Terahertz (THz) bands. Research on the application of technologies such as new modulation schemes, propagation channel characterization, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and RIS surfaces for next-generation mobile communication systems.

  • OPEN RAN Network Services: An OPEN RAN network architecture will be made available across the entire research and innovation ecosystem, enabling the evaluation and optimization of OPEN RAN configuration resources, as well as conducting tests to compare interoperability, efficiency, and reducing dependency on a single operator.

  • Radio Frequency Electromagnetic Field (EMF-RF) Measurements at 5G Sites: Advisory services in measuring radioelectric emissions at 5G mobile phone sites using various broadband, narrowband, and selective frequency and code measurement techniques.

  • Antenna, Mobile Device, and Subsystem Measurements in mmWave and THz: Services for the design, simulation, measurement, and characterization of passive and active antennas, as well as the characterization of mobile devices in the FR1 (< 6 GHz), FR2 (24.5 GHz to 42.5 GHz), FR3 (7.125 GHz to 24.25 GHz), and THz (up to 0.5 THz) bands.

  • Development and Validation of Immersive Reality Applications in 5G/6G: Research in developing immersive experiences (AR/VR) that take advantage of the advanced low-latency and high-speed capabilities of 5G/6G networks, and their application in various sectors. Offering services for the deployment of augmented reality applications across different vertical sectors.
