5GMAdNet, the first fully operational standalone 5G private network in service (“live network”) in Spain

Madrid, February 20, 2025 – Funded by the UNICO I+D Programme of the Ministry for the Digital Transformation and Civil Service and by the NextGeneration EU/PRTR Programme of the European Union, the TSI-063000-2021-80 Disradio-Pilotos project has deployed 5GMadNeT, a 5G stand-alone private network in the FR1 (<6GHz) and FR2 (26 GHz) bands on the campus of the E.T.S. Ingenieros de Telecomunicación (ETSIT) of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). 5GMadNet is the first fully operational 5G stand-alone private network in service (“live network”) in Spain in the millimeter wave band. The technical characteristics of the 5GMadNet network (Operator, MCC, MNC; ...) as well as its network logo on a generic terminal can be seen in the associated images. The Disradio-Pilotos project involves the deployment of technological pilots to validate the application of the technology in very demanding environments that require very high bandwidths and/or very low latency. Tests in millimeter wave bands will allow performance to be evaluated in high-density environments, such as connectivity in urban environments, as well as the implementation of pilots for use cases with high bit rate requirements (1 Gb/s uplink), such as distributed production of digital content and intelligent video fusion in extended reality environments, and for use cases with minimal latency requirements, such as vehicular mobility applications and drone operations.
